Wow, what an inspiring initiative. In both my major personal identities — father of a daughter and seed stage investor — increasing the diversity of tech is of fundamental importance. here’s some stuff i’d be curious about which occurs before a woman ever enters the workplace
- a version of Teach for America that’s focused on placing STEM educators in American schools while also underwriting necessary equipment.
- mentorship circles where girls and young women with interest in technology can be connected with mentors five, 10 and 15 years older than them. Earlier role modeling and introduction of personal voices of encouragement and advice.
- add an ethics/diversity curriculum to college CS requirements. Men (and women) should be exposed to hidden biases, value of diverse teams, etc outside of corporate training situations.
